FLS Thailand ships Pulp & Paper Production Plant from Finland to Thailand

FLS Projects Thailand just completed the first stage of delivering parts for a Pulp & Paper Production Plant north of Bangkok. The cargo of over 8,000 cbm was shipped by chartered vessel from Pori, Finland to Laem Chabang, Thailand. At the discharge port a Super Concentrator vessel weighing 111 tons and other over-sized and heavy cargo that couldn’t be delivered by road was discharged directly from ocean vessel onto barges. From there they started their journey across the Gulf of Thailand and up the Chao Praya river through Bangkok to a jetty in Ayutthaya.
Next, FLS Projects arranged the transportation from the jetty to the project site by road including offloading the Super Concentrator vessel to the ground. FLS’s scope also included related permits by the Department of Highways, obstacle clearance and road escorts. Thanks to detailed preparations including fast and precise communication between all parties involved, the first stage was cleared without any problems on sea, land and on the river! Thank you very much Team FLS and everyone involved!

Consultation of Battermann & Tillery for heavy cargo loading

For the safe transport of the body of a 37-mt press, our network partner Battermann & Tillery was approached by the customer for consultancy and an on-site assessment of the cargo securing measures. Since the trailer unit provided for the transport was too low, large timber beams had to be used to stow the goods in a higher position on the trailer. In order to avoid the stacked timber supports tipping, e.g. as a result of braking movements, the goods had to be secured in a complex manner. Nearly twice as many securing devices were utilised than usually to ensure the body components of the press could not shift forward because of braking or slip out of position when taking curves. Nonetheless, the number of securing devices alone was not crucial, but also where and how they were applied to the cargo. Exact calculations had to be made to anticipate possible forces of movements beforehand and apply securing measures accordingly to avoid too much slack or shifting.

Project Logistics Alliance Holds Successful Annual Meeting in Ho Chi Minh City

After almost a year long of preparation, the second PL-Alliance annual meeting took place in the bustling city of Saigon. While the PL-Alliance was a long way from home, 82 participants representing 70 different companies from all over the world gathered together for the four day event, to network while experiencing the joys of warm weather and good food.

With a pleasant welcoming gala dinner on the 2nd of September, the event took off. The first full day included speeches from our CEO Mr. Alexander Hellmers, as well as the representatives of our sponsors from Fleet Line, C.H. Robinson, and FLS Projects. From there on, heated discussions evolving around case studies and mini meetings were rolled out. A total of 28 meetings slots took place during the whole event, and we were delighted to see the enthusiasm everyone demonstrated.

A special dinner at The Deck Saigon sponsored by Titan on the second evening set the platform for our annual awards for the most active members of 2018. We thank all members who took the time to vote, and also would like to congratulate the winners once more. It is our mission as a network to provide the best platform for networking with fellow professionals, but this will not be possible without the engagement of our members. Last but not least, an event in Saigon would not be complete without a cruise down the river. Thanks to the sponsoring by SAL Heavylift, our members enjoyed a memorable dinner cruise at the Bonsai Boat.

Looking back at the event, it seemed to have finished all in a whirl wind. From the PL-Alliance office, it felt like preparing for a marathon months in advance and all of a sudden the run was over, and it seemed surreal what was accomplished. The network has grown so much since the last annual meeting in Antwerp, and while ups and downs happen everyday, we look back with pride at each milestone, and also at each member and partner who made this possible. Now with a somewhat sentimental optimism, we look forward to what the future brings, and hope that we will make the PL-Alliance better than ever in the upcoming times.

With much gratitude to all members and partners, from the PL-Alliance HQ in Bremen.
