When Drewes Logistics, representing France and China in the Project Logistics Alliance, was informed that their customer needed to relocate a trial plant from South Africa to the United Kingdom, team Drewes Logistics knew they could count on fellow PLA members. The trial plant had to be moved from the customer’s site near Johannesburg to their production facility near Manchester.
Working with Drewes Logistics’ project manager, ISS Global Forwarding, representing South Africa in the PLA, coordinated and arranged the dismantling, packaging, and pickup of the plant with the end customer. The plant was packaged into its original dimensions, 12800 x 2620 x 4100 mm, and its piece weight of 18.5 metric tonnes. Team ISS Global Forwarding then transported the cargo to Durban, South Africa, where it was loaded onto a MACS vessel that carried it to Immingham, England, via Antwerp, Belgium.
From Immingham, Hemisphere Freight Services, representing the United Kingdom in the PLA, took over, managing the import clearance as return cargo. Hemisphere Freight Services’ team then delivered the unit to its original production site.
